Holdem Poker Games

Pineapple

An interesting variation of hold'em which can sometimes be found in card-rooms, (and now online poker rooms), is pineapple.

Pineapple is a form of texas holdem in which each player is initially dealt 3 cards instead of 2. In basic Pineapple, each player must then immediately discard one of the three cards he is dealt, then the game continues exactly the same as in regular hold'em.

Another variation is called Crazy Pineapple. The difference here is that players discard one of their three cards after seeing the flop and the second  round of betting.

A third version also known as Tahoe, lets players keep all 3 cards through the showdown, but a player may only use up to 2 cards to make his or her best hand.

Strategy

The basics of strategy and skill of playing Pineapple is very similar to holdem , since the games play the same after the discard. But in comparing this game to straight holdem, there are a few things to keep in mind.

1) It generally take a better hand to win in Pineapple and a much better hand to win in Crazy Pineapple. Keep in mind that everyone has a better starting hand by default and usually more people will stay in to see.. (and bet) the flop. Flush draws, sets, and top pairs after the flop are much more likely.

2) If you are dealt three cards of the same suit and get a flush draw on the flop, keep in mind that you've had to discard a card that could have possibly made your flush. This makes an already hard draw to the flush that much harder.
